Assignment's Instructions



5th Grade Assignment: Creating your own Cinquain Poem

Standard: Writing

Expectations: W.5.5  Follows the writing process. Applies prewriting strategies to generate ideas; uses the dictionary as an aid.

 Concept: Cinquain poem/Apply

Depth of Knowledge: Procedural 


After discussing and watching a video on cinquain poems, students will create and post a cinquain poem with the proper parts of speech needed.

A cinquain poem is a contemporary poem that does not have to rhyme and has five lines. A cinquain poem is based only on one specific topic.

A cinquain poem is composed of the following pattern:

First Line: Write your topic or simply a noun

Second Line: Write two adjectives describing the noun or topic

Third Line: Write three verbs ending in -ing that shows the noun's actions

Fourth Line: Write four words or just a phrase that expresses an idea about your topic

Fifth Line: Write one synonym about the topic

This poem should be posted by Friday, May 3, 2013. On that Friday, May 3, 2013, students must bring the poem to class on paper with a drawing about their topic.
